10 THINGS PEOPLE MAY HATE ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE
- June 29, 2016
A website is the first step to showcasing what your brand is all about. One only needs to go through a website to understand what the company stands for and if they're really putting it the required effort to stand out.
There are a set of factors that impact a person's perception of a brand. One look is enough to decide whether you love or hate the brand. Read about 10 things people hate the most about websites that would probably make them turn away from the brand:
1. Color and font scheme
If your website isn't visually pleasing, that's the first thing that turns down your visitor. No one would opt for a professional online course that has a rainbow themed color scheme. It somehow seems unprofessional and wouldn't be taken seriously. Color is a tricky thing. You have to use it in the right way, at the right time, with the right audience, and for the right purpose.
2. Turtle Speed
Speed is one of the main factors that impacts the conversion of a visitor into a potential customer. People get frustrated even if a web page takes more than 2 seconds to load. Companies should consistently check their site's load time, and have resources on hand to evaluate and fix whatever slows the page down. If your website doesn't' get going, you'll have visitors going instead.
3. Too-technical Content
People come to your website to get an idea of what you actually do. Don't scare them away with technical jargons. Your target audience could be anyone and while content should be able to cover all aspects of your business, ensure it doesn't contain too many difficult words for visitors to comprehend. No one has a dictionary in hand while browsing through a website. Attract them with user friendly content that encourages them to browse through other sections of the website.
4. Not mobile-friendly
While browsing through a web page in your mobile, don't you find yourself frustrated if you have to keep scrolling from left to right to read a paragraph? With the boom in the digital space, more and more people prefer to use their smartphones to view a webpage. It is important to test your website on mobile devices to check if it is responsive. If your UX isn't in place, you're going to lose out on a lot of traffic and in turn sales.
5. Pop-ups
It is quite distracting when you are instantly disturbed by advertisements that pop up every time you enter a website. Selling ads can generate revenue, but if it distracts the customer from the content, then that's not a good thing. Moderate your ads and track them to see how effective it actually is. If it isn't, it might be a good idea to take them off the website.
6. Startling noises
Someone's enjoying what they thought was a silent browsing session and they're bombarded with your theme song for which they didn't press "play" .What do you think they're going to do if they can't find the stop button? It is most likely that they would leave your site. If you feel that music is necessary to enhance your brand presence online, give them the choice to switch off the music if they want to.
7. Navigation gone wrong
When people land on your website, they need direction. It's frustrating when there are no clear cut navigator buttons that tell you what to do and where to go. Your CTA has no value until and unless visitors are led to the CTA. People won't waste time clicking everything to test it out if they're lost. They would most probably leave the site.
8. Grammar and Typos
Grammar and Typing errors can get on the nerves on website visitors and well as search engines. Even a minor error can lower the value that a company has in so many ways. Typos can surely affect your first impression and credibility and deter customers from approaching your brand.
9. No 'Contact Us
Imagine going through an entire website that perks up your interest level, only to find out that you have no idea as to how to avail their services. Missing out on the 'Contact us' button can cost you a lot. Let people get in touch with you via email, phone, and social media, and make that information available on your website.
10. No Share Button
Sometimes you read great content and would love to share it with the people you know. It's a huge disappointment when you can't find one! Why stop visitors from helping you out? Missing out on share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. means missing out on more site traffic, better search engine rankings, and more lead generation opportunities.
